Day 16_to_20

Turkey - July 2018

We continue our trip through the “wheat sea”. We love this lonely secondary roads, because we ride up on a hill and then down … up and down to discover more and more fields.

Today it’s going to be a long day, we need to cover a lot of km if we want to arrive to Göreme. On our way we pass near the Tuz Gölü, one of the largest hyper saline lakes in the world with its 1,665 km2! That’s an impressive view!

It’s hot, and we stop almost every hour to rest (and drink the mandatory çay), in one of this stops we stay talking longer than in the others. A group of young men are very interested in us. They ask us what are we doing there, where are we going… they laugh about the National Spanish team because it was recently kicked out of the World Cup, and finally they ask (to Tià not to me) what am I (?!) the sister maybe?? immediately we show our rings and we say NO!! we are married! Then, they look at us shocked, what are you doing here without babies?? We say laughing that any baby can come with us on the motorbike!

After that, we continue through the “highway”. We see some smoke far in front of us. Ok, we think it’s a little fire near, but nothing that’s going to affect us … until few kilometers after! The fire is almost on the road. It’s an overturned truck nearly calcined. We stay there waiting some minutes, until everybody starts running, there is a traffic jam and the ambulance cannot come, so we have to move fast.

Without any other impediment we continue our way to Kapadokya. Suddenly we notice that the landscape starts to change, now is greener, and at some point appear mountains on the background. When we look better we see the perfect form of a vulcan… amazing! It’s the magnificent Hasan Daği (Mount Hasan).

We left the Mount Hasan on our back, and some kilometers after starts the magic … as we are near Göreme the landscape becomes from another world, this forms can’t be from the Earth! We see the sunset riding through this capricious formations. Lucky us!

Next morning we book another night at the same hotel. We ask to Ire what it’s a must visit and she recommends to us to take a tour with a guide. We are going to be as regular tourists! At least it’s not a big group, we are just around 10 person, so it’s fine. We stop to enjoy the views from Göreme.

The second stop is Kaymatkli. I’m a little afraid because I’ve heard it can be a “claustrophobic” and crowded, but from the first moment I feel fine there. It’s surprisingly cold, and it’s fun to run like a rabbit on a hole! It’s an awesome place, it’s so impressive what they had done to survive to the enemies. It was first build by the Phrygians, in the 8th–7th centuries B.C, then the Cristians expanded it and it was used in the Byzantine era for protection from Muslim Arabs.

We had a surprise when we get out of there, a guy put OUR PHOTOS in some plates! One for each, but for another girl and for me it was more than one… I should get my copyrights!!!!! While we leave we can see that my plate is still there standing… If you go there maybe you can buy it!

The next stop is for lunch, nothing special at Ihlara valley. Then (great idea) we start walking under the sun at 15:00. The guide explains anything about the old churches or even the valley itself, he just show us the way to a tea garden. It’s beautiful and relatively fresh down there, but we decide to drink our water instead of taking the superexpensive drinks that they offer at this fancy bar (special place for Instagram photos).

Now we are going to the Selime Monastery, another time we got surprised. It’s just amazing that someone had thought to do that!

While we head to Göreme, the guide says that we still have an stop to do.. we don’t really know what’s that about, but I think that maybe it’s at the open museum of Göreme. How innocent am I! it’s just a stop at a “workshop”… they try to sell us some fancy jewelry with a “diamant” from Turkey. When they finish the presentation Tià opens the door and we get out (they don’t look at us friendly at this moment)

When we arrive at the hotel, I feel sick and I have headache. I think I have an insolation (how it can be? walking on the sun at midday at 30ºC!) so I can barely eat anything, and I go to bed really soon this night.

Next day we wake up early to see the Baloons on the air over Göreme (in fact they awake us with the noise). We arrive there at almost 7, so it’s a little bit late, but we see the last ones landing. That’s good enough for us.

Then we leave Göreme. Our stay here has been wonderful!

Today I have to take it easy, I’m not feeling still well. It’s one of our “highway-days”, so there is not much to explain.

We reach Amasya in the afternoon. We have our first embarrassing fall of the journey! The new bars are working perfectly! It’s just a silly situation, Tià was focused on what the GPS was saying, he tried to turn left, but it was forbidden and a taxi was coming … Tià stopped immediately, but the floor was slippery, so we just fall slowly. Don’worry! Any damage to de motorbike or to us, just on our dignity!

Amasya it’s an interesting village with its old town and its beautiful houses pending in front of the river. We have a pleasant evening just walking around.

Next day we’ll return to the Black sea! We are excited to see how it is here in Turkey. Our excitement disappears when we see it … It’s like a continue long city in front of the sea with its high awful buildings.

We stop for a quick lunch at a village, but first we have a tea with a guy on a gas station. Then, we eat the best homemade pide ever. We also go to a little shop to get some supplies for the motorcycle, and suddenly we are surrounded by excited people. Incredible! there is a guy from Australia there, that’s crazy! He had family issues on Turkey, so he has to spend here some months. We start talking and drinking tea with the locals and Ozzie, he translatesall that we need to the shop owner (a friendly guy who really wants to help us), so we get our brakes cleaned and all that we needed. Great!!!

We continue after this break until Unye, we are staying at a first line on the coast hotel. We enjoy the views from the terrace eating an ice cream… That’s a good day!

Next day we are not expecting an exciting day, the highway it’s waiting for us… And the views are not going to be better than yesterday. Finally, we found the hazels! They have forests of them! It should have been so beautiful in the past…

We stop for a quick lunch at the road and we continue our way to Trebisonda. When we reach there it’s really hot, and the drivers are really aggressive with us as usual, but this time we almost have an accident. A van decided to cross just in front of us and Tià barely has time to break enough. I think the driver never noticed, or never cared.

Tomorrow we’ll enter to Georgia!
