Day 91_to_93

India - September 2018

Our driver comes on time, so we leave the hotel early in the morning. Today it will be a long riding day to Manali. The first kilometers are on a highway; just easy and fast. But then, suddenly the roadworks begin and the road it’s not anymore a tarmac road. Now it’s just mud and stones everywhere! That plus the local way of driving makes that we need 11 hours for 300 km.

Anyway, it’s nice to see how the landscape changes from rice fields, to bush forests (with monkeys on the roads) to mountain forests. We are arriving at the Himalayan! We met Chaman in Manali, he seems a nice guide, and he knows the suroundings beause he has lived always here. We are tired, so we just have a pizza and we go to sleep.

How peaceful it feels here! We are really happy to be in the mountains! It’s amazingly beautiful! We start the day driving up to the the Spiti Valley, as Kaza it’s too far (200km) we’ll sleep in between in a camp site.

The landscape changes slowly but dramatically, now we understand why this region is called the cold desert! The road is quite difficult, we are happy to be here with a car and not with the Bonnie! That should have been too much for us, with it full charged. But we are astonished, we see locals with their bullets and hondas carrying 2 or 3 persons riding through impossible rocks and rivers!

Quick stop for lunch

We cross the first high pass, the Rohtang Pass (3978m)! It’s cold here! Then, we have to cross some dry rivers with loose big rocks

We arrive at our camp around 6 at afternoon, it’s quite cold in here! We didn’t know that we were going to sleep at around 4000m above sea level! As the generator is not working we’ll not have electricity today… neither hot water, but it’s fine! that’s part of the adventure!

We spend some time with Chaman and the camp owner. We have a nice stove, tea, whiskey… what else can we ask??

The night was a bit tough, it was really cold and windy outside so we needed 6 blankets and we couldn’t move! When we wake up Tià is not feeling really well, it is hard to breathe for him and he starts to feel overwhelmed. He needs to take it easy, go out of the tend and just stay on the sun trying to be calm and breathing slowly. After some time, he feels better and we have our breakfast with this nice views:

We arrive to the Kunzum Mata temple at the Kunzum Pass (around 4550 m), and the views are breathtaking. It’s just too impressive!

Then, we continue our way through this incredible landscapes… I want to stay here forever!!!!!
