Day 223

Australia - January 2019

Day 223

I wake up with a special feeling… We have big chances to see wild Koalas at Cape Otway!!!!!!

Cape Otway is at the southern tip of Victoria’s western coast where the Southern Ocean collides with Bass Strait. Encompassed by the Great Otway National Park, the ever-changing landscape sees rainforests and streams tumble to the coast, where they meet rugged rocky cliffs dotted with pockets of sandy beaches; aaaaaaand it’s full of koalas.

We enter to the rainforest and we are instantly amazed… How can it has this green?! We stop here and there to check if we find koalas.

I fall instatntly in love again with the giant ferns.

However our search should continue. After some km through a lonely road I see the first one. Just sleeping on a branch over the road. I start screaming saying to Tià that I’ve seen a koala, that he MUST STOP RIGHT NOW or do something because I’ve seen a KOALA. He stops when he finds it is safe for the car and for us (as a logic person). While we walk back to the spot I’ve seen it, I start doubting if it was one or not… And then, there it is. A beautiful, fluffy and sleepy koala. I just start jumping like a little girl. I have really dreamed about this moment my whole life.

Can you spot him?

I can just stay charmed and look at it. Tià does all the pics, and after a while he decides we have to go (if it was for me, I could just stay there the whole day). So, we keep moving.

The landscape really changes a lot in this region. From grasslands, to beaches, to the forests.

Where we find 3 more koalas!

May I take just one home? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?????

Then, we continue visiting the coast and its beaches.

We end up in a crowded free camping spot near a nice beach; we didn’t know today it was Australia’s festivity. So cheers!
