Day 208_to_214

Australia - January 2019

Today we’ll continue our roadtrip through Australia, that means we should say goodbye to Pixie and Robin. We spend a great time with them showing us around and meeting their family (we had the nicests dinners with them!)Sincerelly a part of me doesn’t want to leave, I don’t know when we’ll see them again and for sure we’ll miss their company and stories.

We’ll ride into the giant eucalyptus forests around Perbenton. The views are just amazing!

Next day we’ll visit the Tree Top Walk. We are nervous to do it because we have a bit of fear of heights. Well just check the pics…

Once on the floor we walk around the forest searching for quokkas.

Instead of quokkas we find fairytale-trees!

It’s time to visit the coast again! We head to Torgadirrup, where we find the beautiful Mirnang story about how sharks and rays were created.

That’s the gap they are talking about:

Next day we’ll keep exploring this region. This is where we slept yesterday… nice beach!

We arrive to Ravensthorpe, and the first thing we see are the famous Silo Art!

A typical Australian old building.

And the main street of the village.

While we ride we end up in a weird lake; it is full of dead fish everywhere!

So far we haven’t seen that much of kangaroos… but tonight before we camp they show up!

Now the turn is to visit the Cape Le Grand region. This is insane, the coast can’t be so beautiful! We aren’t even near what’s famous in Australia’s coast and we can’t believe what we see… it’s just wonderful! And we are almost alone all the time!

This colours aren’t from this world!

Not everything we see it’s “beautiful”… This one was resting near the path and I think it’s venomous!

I’m excited to see the Pink Lake, I’ve never seen one of those! However when we arrive all my excitement goes away… it’s just another salty-white lake! The microorganisms that gave it that pink colour in the past are gone.

We continue riding through secondary roads til we find a lovely spot in a beach to camp.

Now we are talking, next days we’ll cross a BIG NOTHING, the Nullarbor! What we visited until now it’s crowded in comparison… it’s this region on the map:

“Feel the wide open space of Australia’s vast Outback beneath your wheels on one of the world’s greatest adventure drives, across the vast, semi-arid Nullarbor” that’s what we have been told. While this is a sealed road, it goes through remote areas and the trip requires thorough preparation. We should carry extra petrol and plenty of water and food. It seems it is needed a 4WD vehicle to venture off the highway. Nullarbor means “no trees” in Latin but in reality the Nullarbor is covered with bluebush and mulga scrub, and even wildflowers after rain. We also may see plenty of wildlife, including wild camels, kangaroos and emus.

We are ready for that!

First we’ll head North to Norseman, last point to obtain supplies!

Here we go!

Yasssss

We just camp in the middle of nowehere… that’s not a fancy pic of me!

Let’s go!!! We have a lot of km ahead of us. We reach Caiguna in the morning. That’s where the 90 mile straight starts (yeah that’s right, around 150km without a single curve!!!!) We are happy to be on a car and not on the bike. That could have been extremely boring!

Well, those are not the most exciting views ever.

That’s all the civilisation we find since Caiguna (around 500km). We are in Border Village.

A gas statiooooooooooon!!!!!

I can’t resist to do that… I think the emptyness is affecting me.

At some point the highway even becomes a landing strip for small aircrafts.

We take a secondary road to visit the coast, and the views aren’t disappointing at all… it just magical!

That’s a really wild region, and we love it!

That’s a happy face!

We take another track searching for a good camping spot with views.

And we find it, right in front of the sea!

This morning we’ll reach the next gas station, but first we have to arrive to the main road (and the nothingness)!

Here we are! The Nullarbor Roadhouse!

The sign we find on the toilet’s door… Do you remember the snake we saw few days ago? we were right to be cautious!

Here we present you the Road trains! They are banned on most roads in the more populated southern and eastern states. Understandable. Those monster trucks don’t mix very well with normal traffic. A proper “Road Train” has two or three normal trailers, connected by converter dollies. That combination is between 36.5 and 50 metres long!!!

Today I’m so bored that I even start counting corpses… it’s frightening and insane! just during the morning I count 200!!! 100 were for sure kangaroos, and the other 100 were probably kangaroos. Another reason to be happy to be with the car and not the motorbike! If one of those hits you on a bike at 100km/h you are done. And better we don’t talk about the smell…

I will not lie to you, we are a bit tired of seeing the same during so many kilometers. It’s a bit challenging for Tià to keep focused, and there are kangaroos everywhere. They just jump in front of the car at anytime without warning! We are happy because tomorrow we’ll be out of here.

Our camp spot for tonight is not as nice as yesterday’s… it’s just an esplanade in the middle of nowhere.
