Day 202_to_207
It feels extrange to be back in a “occidental” city, Perth seems a nice place to live. However we are a bit shocked to see people “out of the sistem”. I mean, we have been in really poor places during the last months, but we left with the feeling that they were working on it. Here, in civilisation they are just left on their own.
The other thing that calls our attention is that all the buildings are new! Even the churches. And the third one is that it’s empty! The heat is almost unbearable, but even so it’s quite deserted. We’ll spend here some days while we wait for the campervan.
Next day in Spain we celebrate the day of the “three wise men”, and that’s one of my favourites days of the year. This time I asked for something really special for me… to see a kangaroo! And yeah, even being in a city they managed to do it!
Finally! We’ll get the campervan today! The first thing we’ll do is to drive direct to St Margaret River to visit our friends Robin and Pixie, do you remember them?! The amazing couple that we meet in the border between Georgia and Azerbaijan (Day 27 of the journey). We rode with them through Azerbaijan, we crossed together the Caspian sea trapped in a vessel for three days due to bad weather, we also rode through the desert in Kazahstan with them and they helped us in one of the hardest days of the trip, the day we had the accident in the desert (Day 39). I must say that sometimes something “magical” happens, and you connect almost instantly with someone, luckily that’s what happened with them. It’s true that when you are travelling on a bike and you find someone else doing the same you already have something in common (you are a bit crazy at least), but that doesn’t mean that you’ll be friends.
We learned a lot from them. We started riding before the sun rose to avoid the heat with them. They gave Tià some good tricks about how to drive off-road. And probably the most important thing, when others where blasting our small confidence saying that it was not duable with our bike (AKA “peanut-tank” for some people) they stayed with us saying that of course it was going to be hard but we were not alone. There is something about the day we fell that stays with us like marked with fire. Just after finding out that the road was even worst and longer than what we thought we were just freaking out, scared and hesitating. Trully thinking in turning back. Tià said to Robin that maybe he was not able to do it, and the answer was: -“Well, there is only one way to find that out…”- He put the helmet on and disapeared with the bike and Pixie did the same. Hell, that’s the kind of people we want to be with! We just went after them without thinking and leaving our fears behind. So yes, now we are keen to see them again. They had some bad time due to an accident in Pakistan and we want to know all the details.
After all the paperwork we get our 4W. Let’s hit the road again!
I know that’s obvious for someone from Australia but… there are eucalyptus everywhere!!!!!!!
We will spend some days with our friends company.
What’s the most common and normal thing to do in Australia? Find and release a highly venomous snake! Yayyyy! Pixie’s mom calls next day saying that she’s caught one and she wants to show it to us!!! Let’s go and find out what is it! Once we arrive we notice it can escape through the holes, so we search a big box to put the cage in. Do you guess what we see on in that box?! Some black widow’s nests and spiders! WTF is going on in Australia?! Everything may kill you! Finally we wrap the cage with cloths and we decide to take it to a wild fauna recovery center. They say to us that’s a highly venomous one, and if someone gets bitten it takes 30 minutes to die… nice! They can’t take care of it, so we have to release it back to the wild (ON OUR OWN!!!!).
When we find the right and unhabitated spot, the bravest one releases it!
After this exciting experience we just chill on a short road trip visiting the coast and some wineries. Talking, talking a lot all the time!
Today we’ll visit the Cape Leeuwin and its beautiful lighthouse. This is the most south-westerly mainland point of the Australian continent (in the state of Western Australia) it is also the point where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean.
Yes… we know…
We have some delicious local fish’n chips and we head to Hamelin bay, where a nice surprise awaits us.
Some beautiful, venomous and friendly manta-rays! I got to pet one and they are supersmooth!
We spend the day visiting other nice beaches around, and of course this is Australia… more surprises!
The helicopter and the lifewards are searching for the shark, it seems to be a big white.
As it is usual afterwards, we visit a nice winery in the region.
