Day 77

India - September 2018

We start the day with a typical monsoon storm, so we have to wait a bit until it passes. Today we want to visit Humayun’s Tomb, from the s XVI. It’s the first garden-tomb, and it’s supposed to be like a little Taj Mahal (we better see it before the “big one”). And then, in the afternoon we’ll take the train to Jaipur at 17:30.

Humayun’s tomb and the gardens:

Some effects from the monsoon:

The train departs from the Old Delhi station; this one is even worse than the other one. The surroundings are not in a good shape, and the station has any informative screen or anything. You should just go there, and try to understand the women on the speakers. There is a high probability that Option A) we lose our train or Option B) we take the wrong train.

As we don’t know the station we arrive like an hour before the depart; during this waiting time we witness one of the most disturbing situations we’ve seen. On the floor at my side there is a man seated, he is clearly one of the lowest cast. He is half naked, dirty and starving. At some point he takes something from a couple; he was just searching something to eat (it was a food container). Then, the man from the couple starts shouting at him, until here it could be reasonably… but then, another man comes and starts hitting him on the forehead and treats him like a dog. As foreigners we don’t understand what they say (they are speaking Hindi) and we can’t intervene, we just feel like shit. That’s the jungle and not where the tigers live. This city is cruel. If you are done here don’t expect help from anybody; you’ll be done forever because everybody is just trying to survive. Here the right of the strongest is the law.

We go to “our platform” to wait and see if there is any new information about our train, and there we met another couple from Spain. We share some experiences about the last days. They just arrive here the last night and they are still in shock! In this few hours they were trick or almost trick like 3 times!

The train arrives with one hour delay. We have a nice journey in company of an Indian girl. She explains us that his husband’s family gave her permit to go alone to New Delhi for shopping, and lots of interesting facts about her daily live. That’s what we love about travelling (no matter how), having the opportunity to share experiences with unknown people!
