Day 51_52

Kirgistan - August 2018

Finally Tià finds an agency that offers what we need, we arrange for 4 days a car with a driver to go to Song Kul from Osh. We are so excited! But first we have to arrive there! We leave the hotel before the sunrise. We are 200km and a border away, so we need to hurry.

At some point on the way we need fuel… But as usual is hard to find it.

The border crossing is easy, but it takes a while. Finally we arrive at the agency one hour late. There, we have to wait a bit more our driver Navik, a nice middle aged man who drives like a crazy teenager. Ah! and he doesn’t speak English!

Those are some pics from our way to Kazarman… Kirgistan is so promising!

The road…

The landscape…

The van

And our first yurt!

Next day is the day! Today we’ll reach Song Kul, it seems to be one of the most beautiful landscapes ever… We’ll see!

It’s a good thing to travel with the van now that I can’t “jumpy bumpy ride” with my swallowed ankle… The route continues being off-road all the time! It’s an amazing road with incredible views. One part of us is relieved to go with the van, but the other one is dreaming about riding here with the motorbike. Maybe one day!!! Today our driver decides to stop for lunch at 11:30… Some “yak” with sauce in the morning? ok! why not?!

As it’s impossible to explain how the landscapes are… Here you have some photos (and they are not doing justice at all to the views).

At this mountain pass (Moldo Ashuu? at 3.346m), we give a ride to two nomad ladies, it seems that they promised some horse milk and other specialties to Navik in exchange. For us it’s fine to share the van for a while. I can just exchange smiles with them on the back of the van, they don’t speak a word of English.

We arrive at their home and we are invited to some chai (tea), bread, and horse milk… For our bellies sake we just take some tea and bread with butter. It’s funny and interesting being there, the kids are staring at us like we were aliens!

Finally we reach the lake, it takes a while to find our yurt camp. We have a whole yurt for ourselves! With its proper bed and even a stove!!. What was not expected was the rain… the yurt is kind of waterproof but not completely, so we have water leaking inside! When the rain stops we go outside to explore. The lake, the sky, the mountains, the horses, even the yurts… Everything is amazing here! We start feeling the height, it gets harder and harder to breathe, that’s because we are at 3.016m!

Our yurt camp!

The stay includes dinner, so we eat some fish (not sure which one) from the lake, and we share some vodka with the locals and a group of Italians. An interesting way to fight the cold temperature (I feel cold, reeeeeeeally cold). After that we decide to go to see the sky, I just don’t have words to describe it. We’ve never seen he Milky Way so clear as this night!

Then a boy starts our stove with some horse/cow(?) shit and we go to sleep.
